Confluence (2012)
Cello/Piano, 9' 45"
Confluence features two themes, one noble and melodic in 4/2 meter and the other typified by a syncopated motor rhythm in a fast 3/4. Inspired by the two rivers that meet in the center of the composer's hometown to form a third, the central challenge of the piece is to first present each theme separately, with its individual characteristics featured prominently, and then to find a way to reconcile them when heard together.
